Mass JCL State Convention
|
States is a weekend-long field trip (everyone gets to stay in a hotel with friends!!) packed with academic, creative, and athletic competitions such as Certamen, chariot races, gladiator fights, "worm" races, graphic & visual art contests, swimming, track & field, etc. See this year's contest booklet for more details about the event. The 2019 Convention will be held at Barnstable High School from Friday, April 26 to Sunday, April 28. |
Classics Day

Classics Day is a field trip where you get to choose to attend different workshops run by Latin teachers and professors. Schools have the choice to put on a skit during lunch time to earn points toward the State Trophy (a trophy one school wins at the end of the year by collecting the most points throughout the year). |
Certamen
|
Certamen is a team quiz game that tests our knowledge in mythology, Latin grammar, and Roman history and culture. During the year, we go to other high schools and universities for Certamen matches. NJCL National Convention

Nationals is similar to the State Convention but on a much larger scale, and people come from all over the country. It has even more competitions than States does. Needham High School is yet to attend the National Convention. |
